Long-serving liberal Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer reportedly plans to retire from the bench.

The leftwing judge, who is 83 years old, originally appointed by President Clinton in 1994, served for 27 years on the nation’s high court.

His resignation will hand President Joe Biden the opportunity to name his successor – which will likely be sent to a deadlocked 50-50 Senate, though Vice President Kamala Harris has the tie-breaking 51st vote.

The timing is curious, given the predictions of a red wave in 2022 that could tilt the Senate to the Republicans.

Merrick Garland was nominated for SCOTUS but the Republican Senate refused to vote on him. If we could delay the vote, we could get someone better. I would look for rulings on mandates, masks and vaxxes to make them more controversial. Opinions are changing rapidly on those subjects.
