When I was a young man in Chicago in mid 70s and making deliveries for the florist shop, we witnessed a purse snatching about a block from the shop. We chased the guy with the purse. He ran all the way around and cut thru a gangway. I had to bail out of the van to chase him on foot. I caught him in about a quarter block. He was armed with 11 inch butcher knife. We got the old lady's purse back. I was awarded a Chicago Police Citizen's Award. That was in my dresser drawer in Golden City when my furniture disappeared. Those people got in that house and even stole the sheets and wool blanket off my bed. Obviously the Sheriff was not doing his job. It was a sick house since that is where I contracted the meningitis. :-/

The simple fact the purse snatching happened in front of the Anshe Emet Synogogue really had very little to do with it. The old lady just might have been a Jew. The florist shop had a large clientele of Jewish customers. I can recall making a delivery at a high rise on north Marine Drive. One old Yenti was saying to another, "Vat are you schlepping?" LOL
