Ford raised the base price of its F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck Aug. 9 following the passing of a bill by Senate Democrats that included a $7,500 federal electric vehicle tax credit.

The base model of the 2023 F-150 Lightning pickup will now cost $47,000, up from it’s original price of $40,000, according to CNN. More expensive models, such as the XLT High/Extended Range and the Lariat Extended Range have increased in price by $8,500, while other F-150 Lightning designs vary between $6,000 to $7,000 in price increases, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Several years ago the South Carolina legislature decided that every college student in the state would get a $1000 check every year (in addition to any other state or federal aid). The only condition was that the student had to maintain at least a C average.

Colleges promptly raised their annual tuition by $1000.

I've read a lot of bad things about those stupid electric Fords.

Raised the price by $8,500? I wouldn't give you $8,500 for one.

Here's Eric Peters' take on that monstrosity:

The whole idea of an electric pickup is bloody stupid. Pickup trucks have never been big with the tree-hugger crowd. If I was in charge at Ford, they would be building hybrid Fiestas that got 100mpg.

I'm still really ticked off that Honda dealer in Denver sold that 2015 Scion IQ out from under me after I wired them the money at the beginning of the Scamdemic. I really like little two-door cars.

Yeah, I got my money back. I'm crazy, not stupid. At 0.01% interest at Chase, I probably lost $0.01 interest. Chase let's me make free wire Xfers. Between the interest and the gas to get to the bank branch, I'm out a cool $0.75.

The bonus plan is that I've got a lifelong attitude against Denver Honda dealers (it was the one one closest to the airport).

I was considering getting a Hyundai Veloster, but after watching Scotty I would never buy a Korean car.

I was considering getting a Hyundai Veloster...

I saw one of those once. It was like a two-wagon, right? If that's what I'm thinking of, it looked pretty good.

Doug DeMuro did a thing about the Suzuki Jimny 4WD. I'd buy one of those in a heart beat.

Not available in the US.

Hyundai Veloster:

More or less a hot hatch to compete with Honda CRX

That's the one. Almost like a two-door Fiesta wagon, albeit better looking.

I saw a car about that color today on my way to the store today, it was a Hyundai something-or-other. It's reminiscent of those light blue and orange Gulf Porsche 917s [?] back in the old days. I really thought the color combo was cool.

I think Steve McQueen drove one in the movie 'LeMans'.
