The US and its allies are in talks over whether to send Ukraine more advanced weapons in the future, including fighter jets, US defense sources have said, according to the Financial Times. The Kharkiv counteroffensive has apparently emboldened Ukrainian officials to press Washington harder for more advanced and longer-range weapons, now that some degree of success in rolling back Russian forces can be demonstrated.

The idea is that if Ukraine's forces can prove they've taken back significant territory with what defense systems the US has provided so far, they can ultimately make the case that the whole of the east and south is within their reach - and even the potential to liberate Crimea while they're at it - if longer range and more advanced arms are made available.

Are they planning on shipping those jets in pieces on trains or trucks, because if they fly them in they'd be shot down upon crossing into Ukraine airspace.

We will be selling them jets from our own defenses, and I can assure you that Raytheon and all those defense contractors are salivating at the money it will cost to replace all that hardware. Hardware made with Chinese Parts.

I'm not so sure Russia has air supremacy throughout western Ukraine. I kinda doubt it at this point. While the Ukrainian advance was over territory Russia basically abandoned and gave up willingly, unless it's a strategic trap of some kind, it does suggest some limits are being reached with Russian forces.

I don't think the S-400 & 500 have the range to cross the entire country. Once they are closer to Russian lines, sure, but Russia may prefer to use hypersonic missiles on aircraft while they are on the ground.

S-400 has 400 kilometer range. NATO jets won't get near the Donbass. The Kinzhal is replacing the Iskander. The latter has an 800 pound warhead. They will take out NATO airbases wherever they are.
