Email 0859 24Dec2022 Immediate Energy Reduction Needed

Indiana Michigan Power communications@impoweraep.com

EMERGENCY REQUEST [I & M logo]

Immediate Reduction of Energy Use Needed

Extremely cold temperatures across the region have created extraordinary demands on the power system. We are asking businesses and the public to help by immediately reducing electricity use as much as possible without sacrificing safety.

I&M is making this emergency request in coordination with PJM – the regional power grid operator. We are asking that customers take these actions until 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 25, to help ensure adequate power supplies.

Please reduce your electricity use by:

*Setting your thermostat lower than usual, if health allows.
*Postponing use of major electric appliances such as stoves, dishwashers and clothes dryers.
*Turning off non-essential electric lights, equipment and appliances.

Minor adjustments to thermostats and other measures can make a significant difference. The combined actions of customers can reduce overall demand for electricity and ease the emergency situation. Customers should use electricity needed for personal safety and to protect against property damage.

If people hate you,
it means you're doing something.

People don't hate people who do nothing.

Be proud you're apart of the minority who actually do things instead of talking about them, and keep taking action.

A couple of weeks ago when my old Cummins/Onan 4500 watt gas generator quit working (engine ran fine, but no electrical output), and I wasn't 100% sure that a new voltage regulator module would fix it, I asked my son-in-law to order me a new 6500 watt Ryobi. (He knows a guy who works there in Anderson and gets good pricing.) The new voltage regulator did the trick -- as expected, because rotor, stator, and slip rings and brushes all measured good -- so I forgot about the new one.

Then yesterday my son-in-law just up and GAVE me the brand new one for Christmas. Put the wheels and feet on today, added oil and gas, and it runs great.

Might sell the old one; it runs great. But it looks like an old Hoosier Hick that got hit by a freight train, so I don't know how much I could get for it.

StraitWoman's happy; I sold an almost-new-in-box extra unneeded heater (.40) and gave her the proceeds of the sale for Christmas.

Wife and kids gave me enough good chocolate to last until Gen. Robert E. Lee's birthday.

I hope you and all the good 4um folks are staying warm.

My state and local media are already bragging about how they are going to ram through as much anti-gun stuff as they can now that the republicans lost the house and senate in my state. I am moving away from here as soon as I can, because enduring another winter of discontent waiting for the traitors in office to rob me of my liberty and prosperity is more than I can take.

What red states are left? More importantly why are all the red states supposedly the ones getting all the welfare ranks, when clearly all the welfare people reside in blue ones?

I cannot understand this world anymore and I cannot understand “Americans” here.

Generac update from rural north, north-central TX, just south of the Red River ~

Both my brother and his daughter had their whole-house units installed late spring but had no electric utility failures until last week when the Generacs both performed flawlessly when needed. Sometimes 5 or more times per day until the electric power lines were properly repaired.

Excellent! Glad to hear the Generac units performed well for your brother and niece.

I bought several thousand dollars of Generac stock (GNRC) after the Big Texas Freeze of February 2021. Bought in at about $325. Should have sold when it went up to $498. But alas I didn't, and now it's down to $91. Not sure why it's been dropping so hard; Generac makes good products -- well all except for that Mean Green electric mower stuff, which I would bet you nine to nothin' is junk without even looking at it. Maybe Generac's September 2020 Mean Green acquisition is what's driving their stock price down?

Maybe all the cash that they had on hand was burning a hole in their pocket. Who knows?

I can recall being in the Sears Roebuck store at Six Corners on northwest side of Chicago in late 70s.

There was a young woman working there who was from Texas. She told me, "I've seen a lot of people wearing jeans, but you are the first one who looks comfortable in them."

It's a way of life for me. I was the last cowboy in Chicago. I bought my first Stetson hat at Morris Men's Wear in the Stock Yard Inn before it closed and was torn down. ;)

They've had to recall a lot of portable generators recently. The handle had a pinch point that was crushing and amputating users' fingers. The first recall and fix wasn't good enough, so they're recalling the same units again for a better, safer fix. Expensive, and bad for business.

How, in the 21st century, can a handle be messed-up? Good grief.
