GOP Rep. Kevin McCarthy, who lost the previous four rounds of voting, fell short in the fifth ballot to become House speaker. Mirroring the results of the fourth round, McCarthy received 201 votes, Democratic Rep. Hakeem Jeffries had 212 votes and GOP Rep. Byron Donalds received 20 votes in the fifth ballot. Republican Rep. Victoria Spartz voted "present" again.
