This will most likely go away, and if it doesn't, there's not going to be much "gun confiscation" going on when the shit hits the fan.
I'll tell you what, if you've got pistols that require a brace, you've got a lot of other good shit too. Go ahead and register the one gun. You'll be the go-to guy whenever the gov't gets a hair up its ass. When they come for that "one gun", they'll have to take the rest just to be sure they're "legal". You can take them to court to get "the rest" back.
81 million votes, fellas.

Why Are Short Barreled Rifles Actually Regulated in the US?

40 million pistol braces, with a $200 registration fee after the fact is a lot of money.
They say you have 120 days to register your firearms. This gives them a chunk of morons who will register their guns so they can go after them and be made examples of.
So unless they already know who has pistol braces, or SBR capable rifles in their possession, this will be nothing. This also came right after the Bump Stock Ban lost in court. Which told me that gimmicks for guns, is a fast way of the BATFE to commit overreach at the drop of a hat.
I am of the mind that this is driven not by public safety, but to make it so fucking expensive that only the rich can afford to be armed. Because once they get the taste of how much tax money they can generate, they will tax magazines, and ammunition next.
This agency needs to be dismantled, the entirety of that and the FBI.

I knew this old boy in Chicago who was in WW II. He had this Japanese 7mm rifle as a war souvenir.
When Chicago started their gun registration scheme, he took a piece of onion paper and placed it over the Jap Serial Number and made an impression of the Jap numbers
Then he cut out the paper and Scotch taped it to the gun registration form.
I guess it was his way of thumbing his nose at their little scheme.
And in case you didn't know, when you register your property with the government, you give them an interest in that property. Now they can use that interest as collateral on their debt. And believe me when I tell you this is exactly what they are doing.
Same thing goes for the bicycle registration scheme they dreamed up supposedly in case your bicycle was stolen and recovered it could be returned to its owner. But I never knew anyone in Chicago that got their bike back after it had been stolen. ;)

If I still had my connections in Chicago I could get you a Saturday night special.
I knew this barber named Luigi that had one. When he put pressure on the trigger the whole cylinder would move.
Not too sure I would want to have a cheap pistol like that one. ;)

I just registered my 25 y/o gas stove with the EPA and CPSC through their new online portal today.
Was I wrong? I just thought they were protecting me.

I am not so sure the the various government agencies would qualify to do what the corporate government entities are doing.
As I am sure you know, the Act of 1871 formed the corporate UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. ;)
