Foods that seem healthy can surprise you. Spinach is touted as high in iron, but actually leaches iron from the body.

But as far as gout, red meat, organ meat, shellfish(clams, oysters, etc), seafood (shrimp, lobster, crabs, etc) are the worst.

Only thing I miss is beef, a good porterhouse or even a burger used to be a treat. But there is a lot to be said for a grilled pork patty slathered with BBQ sauce on a toasted onion bun. I'll survive. :)

American Fast-Food Chains

There was a lake in southern Wisconsin that was overrun with Carp.

They drained down the lake and brought in a boat with seine nets.

Two tractor trailers pulled up with McDonald's emblems on the doors.

They use whatever fish is available to make those fish sandwiches.

Even blacks do not want Carp since there are too many bones. ;)

When we worked on Ilinois State Highways and were on the west end of Arlington Heights area, we sometimes would go into The Texan Real BBQ In Algonquin for lunch.

They had three kinds of BBQ sauce, Mild, Hot and Flammable. The Flammable even had a Haz Mat sticker on it. I was too chicken to try it. ;)

Was it those Asian Carp? Those things just jump into the boat if it has a motor. I've heard they are not good to eat, but it seems like they would be fine cat food. I used to feed my late kitty IAMS lamb&rice, don't recall cats stalking either in the wild.

I got sent to the Elgin office a couple times, they were always having stupid contests involving hot sauce: "Daves Insanity Sauce", "The Bomb", and one I don't remember. They usually ended up throwing out a lot of food, it struck me as goofy frat boy type nonsense.

My best food memory of Chicago was a place on near NW side, a little Polish place. There was a sweet older woman running the plac, probably the owner. I ordered a pork cutlet and a side of apples or something, got about two pounds of food, the cutlet, baked apples, half a loaf of fresh bread, a plate of french fries, some salad thingies (radishes, I think), and like 64 ounces of tea for $9. I was worried the bill was going to be like $100, thinking there was a mistake, but it was what was shown on the menu. And the lady was really sweet, she told me about her home in Poland while I was eating. I'm sure she would have left me alone if I has asked, but I didn't mind the company.
