The United Kingdoms Defense Ministry says Russian forces are likely to create an elite aviation group to operate in Ukraine as part of its war against the neighboring country.
In a Twitter thread on Monday, the UKs Ministry of Defence said that the aviation group, referred to as Shtorm, will likely consist of at least one unit of Su-24 FENCER and Su-34 FULLBACK fighter-bombers and a unit of attack helicopters.
The mix of aircraft types suggests the group will have a primary role of ground attack missions, the ministry said.
British intelligence also cited Russian media reports which suggest that Russias own ministry of defense is aiming to attract highly skilled and motivated pilots by offering large pay incentives and opening recruitment to retired aviators.
Poster Comment:
The helicopters run electronic interference. The fighter bombers drop guided 1,100 and 3,300 pound bombs. Russia is dropping 25 to 30 guided bombs a day. Guided bombs have a 40 Km range so they only drop in safe area near the frontlines. This group might be dropping bombs further into Ukraine territory. Higher risk, so higher pay.

I would think those retired aviators know all too well the risks involved. Unless they have a fierce loyalty to Mother Russia, I doubt they would come out of the woodwork to go into action. ;)

Could this be the underlying reason the 101st Airborne Division has been deployed for the first time in 70 years?
If U.S. and Russian forces tangle the Ukraine thing might just escalate out of control. ;)

Compare the Zircon, a Mach 9 Russian cruise missile, to the US Navy's Mach 0.7 cruise missile. The Russian missile is 12.85 times faster.
The F-35 has a maximum speed of 1,199 mph compared to 1,616 mph for the SU-57 and 1,500 mph for the SU-35.
