When the Soviets were in Afghanistan, we sent the Mujahideen Stinger missiles so they could shoot down Soviet aircraft and helicopters.

This ended badly for the Soviet Union and wound up with the dissolution and break up of their empire.

Of course, one main fact that people are unaware of is that we brought Heinrich Mueller, former Chief of Gestapo from Switzerland to the U.S. in 1946. Mueller was brought to the U.S. under Operation Paperclip.

Muller was given a rank of Major in the U.S. Army and he played the piano for Harry Truman.

With the Gestapo his specialty was Soviet counter-intelligence.

I know this from reading the Gestapo Chief books by Gregory Douglas. ;)
