The other noteworthy thing was that his wife told the the staff not to administer any painkillers because he was a drug addict. I don't think that's the case.
I honestly think that if Jim wanted to commit suicide that he could will himself to stop breathing. He's an interesting character. I've learned that when he talks I'd better listen. I thought I lost him last week when he kicked me out and told me to get my children under control.

When we worked concerts in Chicago at the smaller venues, when we would catch them with beer or booze in the line we would take it since public drinking was not allowed.
One show at the Vic Theater I spot a paper sack in the litter basket. I open it up and it has most of a 12 pack in it. It was my brand. So I pick up the bag and start walking away.
This guy in the line hollers, "HEY!"
I said, "Hey what? It's my beer."
If I had caught him with it in the line, it would have been mine anyway. ;)

When me and my wife had to have a dog put down, we were almost always there together to watch the pink or blue shots administered. It was a very solemn affair.
When my step-father was dying, Teri had to guide Sadie Mae alone, a smooth collie to the Rainbow Bridge. I still feel bad about that.
I suppose the worst one was loading my mother into the back of Marla's (GF) silver Nissan Sentra and having to drive her to her GP, then Parkview Randallia for a second opinion, then having to load her back into Marla's (my) car to go clear across town to the hospice. Nothing like letting Mom go in an ambulance in some comefort.
At least when whe got to the Visiting Nurse Hospice, they were waiting to help and treat my mother with some dignity and respect.
That was a fucking hard day.

OMG Jim never told me about the situation with his mother at the end. His mother was a sweet kind gentle woman. I loved her. As a physician I can't get attached to patients but my man is trying to give me my humanity back it seems.
I understand a little bit better as to why he won't cut off communications with Marla now. I didn't know.
