FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) A dedication ceremony will be held Tuesday to raise a new American flag at Glenbrook Dodge. The flag, which previously stood over the dealership for 21 years, has not flown since 2022 due to winter winds causing it to come crashing down.

The massive American flag hasn’t been flying since Dec. 23, 2022, when low temperatures and wind chills resulted in the pole snapping into three pieces and falling on a car below.

Douglas McKibben, owner of Glenbrook Dodge, has taken precautions so the new flag pole will return to its original glory. The new pole is being assembled and installed on Friday.

Tuesday’s flag-raising ceremony is set to begin at 10 a.m. and will take place at 100 W Coliseum Blvd. Food trucks and beverages will be at the ceremony for the community.

According to the news release, it will stand just over 200 feet high and will be able to withstand winds up to 130 miles per hour. The previous pole stood at 232 feet, and the dealership’s general manager told WANE 15 the height difference was not for any specific reason.

The raising of the new flag is awesome and we invite everyone who appreciates our flag to come out and be part of the ceremony. Every Veteran near and far is welcome. You fought for this great flag and we want you to be here to see it fly again!”
KASEY SHIREY, GENERAL MANAGER AT GLENBROOK DODGE

That picture doesn't do it justice, it's so big it's almost surreal, creepy. It flies in slow-motion due to the size.

Maybe I'll go. It's not like I've got anything more important to do. Maybe I'll run into someone I know. Almost all my other friends have been lost to the mandated clot-shots.

Gimme a call if you wanna go, Stumpy.

(Edit) Wear your cargo shorts and a nice T-shirt to show off your hardware, you'll be on TeeVee. LOL. Maybe you'll get a gig on Fox News like Johnny Joey Jones.

(Edit 2) If nothing else, you might get laid by some biker chick!

Stumpy

When I was at Northbrook highway maintenance yard in Illinois, the technician was named Stumpner. We called him Stumpy.

We had the overlay box for a month. Stumpy had a list. There were RED X's at several locations. He looks at the list, scratches his head and says, "Hmmm, these must be the places were are supposed to do."

We went out and paved them all.

A month later Contractors came in and tore them all out and paved the roads. Those were the places we were NOT supposed to do. It was a typical state SNAFU.

If he wasn't sure what the RED X's meant he should have called his boss.

They must have wasted 1,500 tons of asphalt.

Stumpy is the Engineer at the Arlington Heights yard now.

Housing contractors built these big, expensive houses next to the state yard. The first night on snow and ice, the trucks and loader all had back-up alarms. Some woman was looking out her bedroom window. I'll bet she was thinking, "My God, what did I buy next to?" LOL

My Stumpy lost both of his legs below the knees and his left arm in one of those damned Gulf Wars. He's not doing anything anymore, I figure this ceremony is tailor made for him if he can sober up long enough.

It is what it is. I got away with some nasty scars and all my limbs.

I've got Stumpy's back as long as I'm alive.

I wish I could be there, you and Greg would be quite the spectacle. I know you wouldn't even dream of being on camera, Mr. Secret.

get laid

When at Woodstock 94, one of the guys at a remote stage boinked two chicks under the stage. What a man.

We caught them with a case of beer in the crowd and gave it to the chicks on the crew at one of the remote stages. We told them, "If they try to get to it, pop them and dump them." They had to pop them and dump them.

we were supposed to get two Peace Patrol shirts, but someone stole one set and were selling them to people in the crowd. We saw this guy wearing our shirt and said, "Come here."

He said, "Yeah. What do you want?" "You mean you're not on our crew? Get that shirt off now." We took it from him. Receiving stolen goods. ;)

When at Woodstock 94

One of the observations that has stuck with me is that Woodstock II was 25 years after the first, but bands like Steve Miller and Santana were still relevant in 1999.

What sort of reception would Benny Goodman and Glen Miller received at Yasgurs farm? Y'all want to don some MAGA t-shirts in Upstate NY and find the fuck out ? :)

t-shirts

We were supposed to get two Peace Patrol t-shirts at Woodstock. But someone stole one set and was selling them to people in the crowd. The third day we wore out Star Security t-shirts. That was the only day not to be in the official videos. ;)
