On September 30, 2025, nearly 100,000 U.S. federal civilian employees formally separated from service under the Trump administration's Deferred Resignation Program, the largest single-year workforce reduction since World War II, projected to save $28 billion annually in payroll costs. This planned exodus coincides with a midnight funding deadline, as Congress debates a continuing resolution, with Republicans advocating a clean bill and Democrats seeking protections for expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies. Partisan tensions have escalated, with both sides exchanging blame for potential disruptions like furloughs and delayed services.

Good thinkin', quit just before you'd get paid to sit at home during the furlough, which may be a long one.

They'll probably 'Learn to Code' and take your job, Dak. LOL.

That TDS is a killer.

The Schumer shutdown is going to go down as the biggest middle finger to Americans in the history of government. He's not advocating or negotiating for the middle class, registered democrats, or some forgotten group of America.

Instead he's negotiating for illegal aliens.

As of mid-2025, over 154,000 federal employees had accepted the deferred resignation / buyout program and were being paid (but not working) through Sept. 30, 2025. Also, reports state that “more than 100,000 federal workers will formally resign Tuesday [i.e. September 30, 2025] under Trump’s deferred resignation program.” But, those resignations are not “new quits” in the classic sense; they are the effective date of the resignations for those who already accepted the buyout. The individuals accepted earlier, and on Sept. 30 their resignation becomes official. That’s different from a sudden mass decision on that day.
