Krysta Michelle Tsukahara, 19, was one of three who died when the vehicle smashed into a tree at high speed in Piedmont, California, last November.
Her parents have now launched legal action, alleging that Tesla, led by Elon Musk, knew about the design flaw for years but failed to fix it.
Krysta, a second-year student at Savannah College of Art and Design, along with friends Soren Dixon, 19, who was driving, and Jack Nelson, 20, were all killed in the crash after the vehicle caught fire.
A fourth passenger was injured but survived.
Carl and Noelle Tsukahara first filed a lawsuit against the carmaker in April and have now amended it with a detailed 36-page wrongful death claim.
According to the suit, Krysta initially suffered only minor injuries, but when the Cybertruck's battery ignited, she died from burns and smoke inhalation.
The complaint highlights that the vehicle's battery-powered doors can fail if the power cuts out, and that Krysta was unable to escape because the manual release was too difficult to locate.

Israeli settlers have established 114 new outposts across the occupied West Bank over the past two years, according to a report released on Sunday by the Palestinian Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, which called the scale of expansion "unprecedented" in the history of the occupation.
Marking two years since what it described as the "war of extermination", the Commission said the number of new outposts represents a nearly 60 percent increase compared with the 190 that existed before 7 October 2023.

The UNIFIL peacekeepers have issued a statement over the weekend after a Friday incident in the southern Lebanese border town of Maroun el-Ras in which an Israeli drone dropped grenades near their position in the area.
The drone strikes started around 11:30 am, according to the report, with a grenade dropped 30-40 meters away from the Irish peacekeepers. The second grenade was dropped 20 minutes later, exploding overhead, though fortunately not causing any casualties among personnel nor the civilian workers they were there to protect.
