The O-1B visa is intended for “individuals with an extraordinary ability in the arts or extraordinary achievement in motion picture or television industry“. The Trump administration has been cracking down on these, and now applicants must demonstrate “distinction” in their field of work.
This sounds like an arduous process, with would-be visa holders having to send in multiple recommendation letters, contracts that prove artists will earn a living wage, and any press attention to prove that they’re high-profile enough. But the Financial Times is reporting that the criteria appears to have been loosened to ease entry for OnlyFans models (and other online influencers).
Apparently, follower counts can be used as a proof of distinction in their field, with any brand endorsements on stream counted as an “endorsement of talent”. The FT quotes lawyer Protima Daryanani as saying that “people who should never have been approved are getting approved for O-1s” and that the quality of those admitted has been “watered down”.
It’s a livingThe key is that OnlyFans models can apparently easily offer concrete data via the site of their notability and success, which a new algorithm-based selection process prioritizes. As New York attorney Shervin Abachi explained:
“Officers are being handed petitions where value is framed almost entirely through algorithm-based metrics. Once that becomes normalized, the system moves towards treating artistic merit like a scoreboard.”

A squadron of American spy planes has been spotted at a UK airbase as global tensions around Venezuela, Russia and Greenland increase.
The 99th Reconnaissance Squadron, equipped with critical intelligence gathering machinery, were seen at RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire today.
The squadron’s mission is to ‘deploy and employ warrior Airmen and execute effective and sustained U-2 operations globally in support of National Objectives.’
Fairford has long hosted United States Air Force personnel, but onlookers say the last few days have seen a drastic surge in activity.
Earlier today, F-35 jets were spotted taking off from RAF Mildenhall as US planes amass in the UK.

At CES in Las Vegas, where robotics is a dominant theme this year, Roborock introduced a striking new home robot meant to persuade consumers that household automation is ready for everyday life, according to Bloomberg.
The Chinese company — formally called Beijing Roborock Technology Co. — revealed the Saros Rover, a robotic vacuum concept equipped with two independent wheel-legs that allow it to climb stairs and traverse uneven terrain. According to the firm, it is “the first robot vacuum cleaner with two wheel-legs.” The device uses artificial intelligence, motion sensors, and 3D spatial mapping, and in a media demonstration it climbed stairs, descended a ramp, and performed a small jump, which a company spokesperson said could help it handle obstacles
