I had 3 friends who had pets. Both improved their dog's health my making bone broth and pouring it over their food.
Adult humans need a lot of bone broth (collagen) when they get older. I take 2 different collagen supplements and I eat 
a lot of Greek yogurt. Greek yogurt is processed to remove the whey and to give you ,ore protein punch.
Good for older people.

if the surgery included installation of metallic fasteners and or fusion of vertebrae that damage cannot be corrected. try a dog food that requires refrigeration the stores will have it in refrigerated displays, the stuff on the shelves have had the good parts processed out of them.

Dude. To think I didn't immediately do that.
Surgery was one week ago today.

A week ago Saturday her abdomen started shaking at about noon
. Almost like a seizure, except her limbs weren't involved.

It passed. But came back after 2pm. Took her to the emergency vet.

X-ray fine. Non-specialist ultrasound fine. Blood work fine, except for hematocrit, indicating dehydration. Diagnosis after ruling out all the immediately life-threatening stuff: Pancreatitis
 Sent home with meds.

I slept in the recliner next to her in the living room in to keep an eye on her. At about 2am she starting whining and wouldn't calm unless I was petting her. Thought maybe she had to go out. Took her out and she could not / would not stand. Back to the emergency vet.

Diagnosis: IVDD/IVDH. They called around for availability for an emergency vet with CT/MRI. Took doggo to the university emergency vet 3am Sunday. MRI and surgery the following day, Monday. So it's one week since surgery. They removed the exploded disc material from around her spinal cord. Also removed chalky (prematurely aged) material from neighboring discs. Fenestration, drilling holes in vertebrae so that if one of those other discs blows out the material will go out instead of press the spinal cord. Got her back home Thursday.

Seems you did pretty well, all considered.  My dog died in October.  She developed an enlarged heart.  She had a tumor on her belly.  We found that CDS (Chlorine  Dioxide Solution) seemed to stop the tumor from growing.  Later treated her with ivermectin and I'm confident that's what made the tumor shrink considerably.  Vet prescribed viagra, of all things, to enlarge the blood vessels and ease the strain on her heart.  She had rapid respiration he last 6 months or so, but the vet was good an certainly gave her extra months, which I was happy to have.  

My dog was the best dog in the whole world.  Hands down, no debate, no discussion.  Thank you very much.

I wish I could assuage your heartache.

I've had a couple dogs my family, go down hard.
There's nothing worse.

Stories of dog abuse kill me.
