NASA's Curiosity Rover Finds Evidence Of Underground Water On Mars 'That Could Have Supported Life'

 

NASA’s Curiosity Rover has discovered evidence on Mars that suggests underground water once existed in a region of the planet later than scientists first believed, the agency reported March 15.

“Our findings show that Mars didn’t simply go from wet to dry,” said Dimitra Atri, group leader of the Mars Research Group at New York University. “Even after its lakes and rivers disappeared, small amounts of water continued to move underground, creating protected environments that could have supported microscopic life.”

Curiosity, an SUV-size vehicle weighing about one ton, spent six months investigating an area filled with geological formations known as boxwork, which are low-crisscrossing ridges about three to six feet tall.

The shootdown has significant implications for the immediate air campaign, and will potentially reduce U.S. and Israeli efforts to use stealth aircraft to launch penetration strikes deep inside Iran. Beyond the current conflict, the size of the F-35 program as by far the world’s largest fighter program outside China makes the first ever successful surface-to-air strike against one of the aircraft highly significant, potentially resulting in revisions to planning for operating them across multiple theatres.  Pentagon Exposes False Claims on Combat Readiness of Bradley Fighting Vehicles in Europe

 The US army unit after a rotational deployment to Europe in 2023 falsely reported the operational readiness of 117 Bradley fighting vehicles, while none of them were mission capable, Sputnik discovered after analyzing a recent audit report from the US Department of Defense Inspector General (DODIG).

The military reported in 2023 that 82% of the vehicles were fully operational prior to the equipment being placed in storage in Germany. However, a subsequent inspection revealed that all 117 vehicles were not mission capable. This forced the army to pull 97 vehicles from its war reserve stockpile to equip the incoming rotational unit, the DODIG report said.
