Socialist President Daniel Ortega declared Nicaragua will no longer hold any presidential elections.

The announcement came during a speech commemorating the 1979 Sandinista revolution in front of state employees.

 Ortega said the move prevents opposition parties from trying to seize the government and power.

He specifically targeted parties backed by the Yankees and Somocistas vowing they will never return.

 The decision effectively cancels elections originally scheduled for around 2026-2027.

Ortega rules with his wife Rosario Murillo as co-presidents after recent constitutional changes extending their terms.

American Indian or Alaska Native – A person having origins in any of the original peoples of North and South America (including Central America) and who maintains tribal affiliation or community attachment.

Asian – A person having origins in any of the original peoples of the Far East, Southeast Asia, or the Indian subcontinent including, for example, Cambodia, China, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Pakistan, the Philippine Islands, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander – A person having origins in any of the original peoples of Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, or other Pacific Islands.

The 1997 OMB standards permit the reporting of more than one race. An individual’s response to the race question is based upon self-identification.
