Egg recall upgraded to FDA’s highest risk level: ‘Serious adverse health consequences or death’

The FDA is upgrading an egg recall issued last month to its highest risk level, warning the public that exposure to the eggs could pose serious health risks.

On Wednesday, the FDA classified the recall as a Class I, indicating “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use of or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”

According to Midwest Poultry’s recall announcement, the eggs were produced and distributed from farms in Texas between June 6, 2026 and July 3, 2026, and have sell-by or best-by dates between July 20, 2026 and August 17, 2026.

The eggs were shipped to foodservice and retail customers in Texas, Oklahoma and Louisiana, ere available to consumers at Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana, Brookshire Grocery stores in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi.

The recalled eggs can be identified by codes P-1950 or 0840962 with a Julian date between 157 and 184 printed on the side of the cartons. For a full list of examples, check the FDA recall site or call 574-405-9531.

No other Midwest Poultry Services products are part of the recall.

On July 24, the CDC reported a Salmonella outbreak connected to the recall. The outbreak resulted in 98 cases of Salmonella, resulting in 26 hospitalizations across 17 states. No dates were reported in the outbreak.

The CDC says you should throw away or return any eggs associated with the recall, and wash items and surfaces that may have touched the eggs using hot soapy water or a dishwasher.

Salmonella symptoms include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. For children under 5, people over 65 and those with weakened immune systems, the infection could require medical treatment or hospitalization.

The recall comes amid an ongoing outbreak of cyclosporiasis, which can cause explosive diarrhea, linked to now-recalled iceberg lettuce supplied by Taylor Farms that has spread to at least 47 states.

A separate, ongoing outbreak of salmonella, linked to jalapeños, has sickened nearly 350 Americans so far. On Wednesday, Whole Foods recalled items from produce and prepared foods departments that contain jalapeños in response to the outbreak. The company said no illnesses have been reported in connection with those products.

I only know four people who survived the clot-shots. The only one not showing signs of cognitive decline/early-onset dementia is Kim (Maybe the Nattokinase worked, so far).

Both you and your furry friend may now be eating food that causes diarrhea, as cyclospora is no longer the only recall to worry about. Connecticut-based pet food company Oma’s Pride issued a voluntary recall posted to the US Food and Drug Administration website on Wednesday.

The family-owned brand is recalling one lot of Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe as over 600 bags may have been contaminated with salmonella.

The tainted product affects the 6-pound bags distributed at retailers and wholesalers in 11 states: Arizona, California, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.

According to the announcement, the recall was initiated after a consumer filed a complaint with the FDA over possible salmonella. The sample tested positive, and Oma’s Pride has said it is investigating to determine the source.

“Oma’s Pride is conducting further investigation to better understand this finding. The health and safety of pets and the people who care for them is our highest priority,” the recall states.

Three illnesses have been reported to date in association with the complaint.

The company said 639 bags of Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe were recalled and distributed to stores and also directly to consumers through online, direct-to-consumer orders, shipped frozen. All impacted owners should immediately stop feeding the product and safely dispose of it.

It’s suggested that you wash and sanitize your pet food bowls, cups and storage containers, including anything else that came in contact with the compromised consumable.

The recalled product is a frozen raw dog food sold in a 6-pound gusseted stand-up pouch with 12 individually wrapped, 8-ounce, vacuum-sealed portions.

The bags affected will have a lot code BB012729, a manufacturing Date of January 27, 2026 and expiration or best by dates of January 27, 2029.

Oma’s Pride said products were distributed from February 12, 2026 through May 15. No other products, sizes or lots are affected.

Similar to humans, Salmonella in pets may cause diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting and lethargy. Some pets may have a decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. While uncommon, it may be fatal if the infection spreads into the bloodstream.

According to PetMD, severe illness can lead to dehydration, while the bacteria can also enter the bloodstream and cause sepsis, a potentially life-threatening condition.

While salmonella can affect animals eating the product, there is no risk to humans from handling the products.

Oma’s Pride is a fourth-generation, family-owned company with over 75 years of food manufacturing experience.

“We take this finding seriously, and that commitment to food safety is why we are voluntarily recalling this lot,” the company said in the recall. “We are proud of the food we make, and we remain committed to producing high-quality, biologically appropriate pet food.”

The Post reached out to Oma’s Pride but has not heard back.

all of those eggs were contaminated after they went through the USDA mandated washing; washing removes the bloom which is a protective coating the hen applies to the egg as it is emerging its function is to neutralize bacteria attempting to enter the porous outer shell. buy only farm fresh eggs from a flock owner you know. farm fresh eggs can be stored at room temperature for at least a week and around six months at 40f. do not wash them until you are ready to break the shell, wash with hot water only.

poor Claire, left hand left eye dominate, I made it a habit to practice using both hands and both eyes with both eyes open, I think if I were her, I'd go ahead and blinder that left eye. I've known a few people with a lazy eye, it's hard to have a conversation with them, always peaking over at Murphy* knows what.

I've read about what I think was called 'water glassing' or something to preserve eggs.
Washing was a no-no as I recall. I think some kind of lime was involved too.
I doubt it's the green lemons or the shit Rainman hauls to data centers or windmills.
My chemistry is a little weak. 1970s HS weak.
I'd probably have to head north on 37 to Amish country or south on 27 or whatever it is to find a farmer.

Not much farmland in the Summit city that isn't covered by P/U trucks that FW GM assembly doesn't have covered with overproduction so the critters can eat the soy-based wiring harnesses.

I used to be cross-dominant, and somewhat ambidextrous favoring the right hand.
Don't remember how I got over that, probably a million rounds at the range with Pam, my company handler.
Punk had the upper hand for awhile, but not by much.

My sister up by Gary has a mess going on. Her fence is down, no power since Tuesday, except for her standby generator, which is overdue for an oil change. 12 days, I think the interval is 4 (100 hours).
Dak sent me a link last night, she called about noon today. Lights, no A/C, freezer and refrige OK.

that may be a float test for freshness, fresh eggs will sink in water, as they age, they will float higher in the water collum. as the eggs age they lose water weight from evaporation which is replaced by CO2 making them more buoyant. if one is into hard cooked eggs use older eggs and cool them in ice water, they are easier to peel.

when I was stationed in Virginia, I would load 100 or more rounds Monday through Friday and shoot 500 or more .45 ACP on the weekends, plus whatever else I was looking to shoot, I loaded 7.62x51 and 3006, 38/357mag 44mag, back then a brick of 22lr was less than $15.00/1000 rounds.  there was a hunt club on the other side of the swamp behind my place, they ran deer with dogs so no matter how much I shot the deer would still get pushed my way; we ate well then. more than once I had hot air balloons come over my head less than 30 or so feet above the trees, wouldn't even know they were there until they laid on some gas to gain altitude.  

I got a couple trail cameras for Father's Day that have time lapse options, I set them to take a picture every ten seconds from 2200 Wednesday last until 0645 Thursday pointed at the Northeast and Northwest sky, got some good shots of the meteor shower.

I heard you can't/shouldn't try this with store-bought eggs.

It was supposedly a pioneer technique.

I carried it it it in a shoulder rig, with two mags on the other side.
I wasn't gay, so the rig was black, not brown.

I had a plus two mag loaded in the weapon, loaded light -1 to prevent spring creep.
And he two spares -1.
50 total. 18+16+16=50.

I never loaded my XM177e2 mags past 25 each.

Watch 'em banging those 30 round mags on their helmets to knock 'em loose [jungle conditions].

All my mags have the green followers in them. They're supposed to be better.

we would tap our M16 30 rounders on our thighs to seat the rounds on the back of the mags, always fully loaded we were packing 1911A1 carried three with 7, M16 was minimum seven mags with 30, at times I'd tote one mag installed with 9 more on tap. one day we responded to US Marines in the ditch on one side of the road and Pinoy Marines in the ditch on the other side of the road at the Kaliaan gate, the Pinoys were wanting out bound so they could wave through a bunch of stolen property. the US Marines said no as the rotation called for US Marines on the out bound lane. there was a curve in the road between us and the Pinoy Marines in the ditch to flank them should it go hot, it didn't but there was a lot of hopping and yelling when the Pinoy Marine colonel and the US Marine A company colonel came out to see the ruckus. the US Marines got the out bound lane, and the stolen property was discovered about 20 minutes later. we had three ammo cans of 5.56x45 of bandoliers packs in the ready box in the truck. I would use the emptied bandoliers as cassette tape holders I sewed on to by visors of my '74 VW Beetle I dubbed "Der Wanze"  The Bug painted on both doors in some bitching cool old German script I found in a calligraphy book I check out from the base library. I painted the car in white with the trim and lettering in ultramarine, blue with course silver metal flake.

come on everyone knows what bitching cool means lol. any way Pinoys are Filipinos, Subic was an relax assignment for Pinoy Marines after a tour in Mindanao during the shooting war with the muslims there. the US issued maps of Mindanao had large areas marked as UNCHARTED, not a lot of towns the further one gets from the coast. That is not to say it was uninhabited; no one really knew who lived the old growth jungle, it was a dialect I didn't hear very often Tagalog is Tagalog but like everywhere else various regions had their own idioms my wife is from Tabaco Albay which is part of the Bikol region so using the Tagalog from there to tell someone to turn around means go back to where you came from in Papangan. There were 700 some dialects but for the most part everyone could communicate the rest is just gun and ammo talk. In the Navy we only had the hand me downs when it came to infantry weapons.
