Sex-change chemicals in river that runs through US capital

Snip from BBC News item:

An investigation into the cleanliness of rivers feeding Washington's Potomac River has revealed the presence of sex-changing chemicals. Pollutants which contain the chemicals, known as endocrine disrupters, were found in several tributaries and in the smallmouth bass fish living within. The US Geological Survey (USGS) study followed the discovery of high numbers of intersex fish in the Potomac basin.

it's happening in the Mississippi River. It's happening in some canadian fresh water lakes & rivers. It's happening a lot. that fish are being all screwed up in their gender characteristics due to both drugs & chemicals in the water. Let me explain this to you, if it is happening to the fish, then it can happen to the people. We have foreign chemicals, drugs & modified food in our environment too. inlcuding female hormones in the meat. How do we know this stuff doesn't cause gender bender characteristics in the people?

There is a problem with fertility in this country and in most 1st world countries Japan for instance.. you dont see the same happening in 3rd world countries that arent as developed.. no coincidence IMO.

We have foreign chemicals, drugs & modified food in our environment too.

I've seen reports that indicate that many drugs ingested by humans/animals cannot be filtered out by current water filteration systems now being used.

Myself, we have a very deep well but that is also no guarantee as I'm in farm country and christ only knows what is leeching down 180 feet...

many pharmaceutical drugs that people take as pills end up in the ground water. A researcher at St. Louis University simply made a fish tank of fresh water with the same quantity of ritalin (or maybe prozac) that is in the Mississippi River already. he put fish in the tank, and within a generation of living like that the fish were mixed up in their gender, part male & part female.

we are literally destroying the earth and there is massive evidence of this. it is simply never discussed in the media.

we remember that many of the concerns of the environmentalists were reasonable, but many were unreasonable and IMHO this was so that the environmentalists would lose credibility. and now nobody listens to people squaking about GM food or drugs in the water or chemicals too in the water.
